Indaver transforms plastics into pure molecules using chemical processes: a Belgian world premier

08/10/2025

Using advanced engineering and technological knowledge, recycling company Indaver in the port of Antwerp can transform plastics into basic components with their original chemical structure.

Indaver, a subsidiary of the logistics player Katoen Natie, is not satisfied unless the job is done properly. Turning plastic packaging mechanically into secondary raw materials or products, for instance by grinding or melting, is not what the company wants. It has the necessary in-house knowledge, skills, expertise and attitude to risk to produce styrene, a virgin raw material used by chemical groups in producing new plastics.

As owner of Indaver, businessman Fernand Huts dreams of investing in a second, even larger factory in our country, where waste streams are processed in a more future-oriented and sustainable way. With a good permit policy and financial stimuli, it is highly likely that the horizon will soon look even greener.
