Drone detection system from Hasselt aerospace technology specialist highly respected

The number of drones hovering through the skies for various applications is constantly on the rise. At the same time, unlicensed devices present a growing risk to critical infrastructure. However, drone detection system specialist Senhive from Hasselt has a solution.

Senhive manages to locate some 50,000 of these devices a year, no less than 90% of drones sold on the market. The company finds out the type of drone, where it came from, and how long it has been flying. Fortunately, only 5% are involved in suspicious activities, such as targeting industrial companies, banks, sports stadiums, seaports, airports, or prisons. Senhive relies on aspects such as radio frequency, acoustics, and optical techniques to prevent this.

Senhive is receiving more and more requests from both Belgium and beyond to secure local airspace against possible intruders. Some names? Europe's three largest seaports: Rotterdam, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, and Hamburg. The world famous EDM festival Tomorrowland. Pop music festival Pukkelpop, another top Belgian event. New York's green lung: Central Park. Even The Hague entrusted its security to Senhive during the recent NATO summit.

To ensure nationwide coverage across Belgium, Senhive has to install 65 sensors on carefully chosen telecom masts across the country. For this task, it has partnered with telecom operator Proximus and SkeyDrone, which has extensive data that can be used to evaluate drone threats.
