17/06/2016

As part of the year of the diamond in 2017, on Friday 17 June the Antwerp diamond industry launched a new campaign to promote the city's reputation as the world's diamond capital. Entitled 'Diamonds & Antwerp, it's in our DnA', the campaign honours these precious stones considered to be the icon of the city of Antwerp for almost 550 years.

The new campaign was unveiled by the Mayor of Antwerp, Mr Bart De Wever, and the CEO of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, Mr Ari Epstein. During this ceremony, a large image was presented showing 16 representatives of the diamond industry. It symbolises the diamond community in all its diversity and also contains the ten important values that are responsible for the current reputation of both the industry and the city on the Scheldt. These values demonstrate a philosophy of openness, a passion for craftsmanship, a commitment to sustainability and much more.

For several centuries, the diamond sector has attracted tourists from all over the world who come to visit this cultural city. Through the campaign, Antwerp and the diamond industry celebrate this historical bond that unites them and which is a source of pride for its inhabitants. The two go hand in hand. This union is not only remarkable, but it also includes a whole series of unique qualities and advantages that are brought together in a charter.

Any Antwerp resident can sign the charter and become an ambassador for the city and its sector of the diamond industry. From September 2016, the campaign will be launched worldwide to show everyone the values supported by "Diamond & Antwerp".
