Belgium is home to the world's first refinery to be awarded the B Corp sustainability label
The Fontenoy sugar factory has obtained B Corp certification. It's the first sugar factory in the world to be able to display this sustainability label.

B Corp certification is a label for commercial enterprises committed to achieving a set of social, environmental, good governance and transparency objectives. This American certification, awarded by B Lab since 2006, is considered to be one of the most difficult to obtain. More than 8,000 enterprises worldwide are already B Corp certified. In Belgium, companies such as Spadel, IBA, Inclusio, Ecosteryl, Alpro, Soil Capital, Kazidomi, Brunehaut Brewery and Maison Dandoy have already obtained this precious certification, opening doorways to numerous opportunities.
The Fontenoy sugar factory, based in Antoing in the province of Hainaut, has set itself apart from other industries in the same sector thanks to its commitment to supporting its suppliers, mainly beet growers, in their transition towards regenerative agriculture, and by installing a wind turbine with the aim of achieving energy autonomy by 2030.
Out of more than 1,500 sugar factories worldwide, only this Belgian company has been able to obtain the B Corp sustainability label. A world first that has delighted the managers of this little-known enterprise. In addition to strengthening the internal cohesion of the company's personnel around a rewarding mission, the Fontenoy sugar factory is also increasing its attractiveness on the job market, while standing out positively against the competition.
A fine example of commitment to sustainable development!
