A Belgian QR code wins over the US

A Ghent-based company generates user manuals using an original application that has become a Belgian success story aiming to conquer a global market.

Founded in 2017, Ghent-based Manual.to has, from the outset, aimed to enable the transmission of company-specific practical knowledge in digital form.

Jorim Rademaker and his team therefore created a platform for uploading instructions and user manuals, with the option of easily adding photos and videos.

But the added value lies primarily in the way the instructions placed on the platform are made accessible to users. This information is transmitted by a simple QR code that users scan with their phone or tablet.

In practical terms, an experienced worker with a perfect command of a complex industrial machine, for example, can use a smartphone or tablet to document every stage of operation. Once this information has been recorded, Manual.to's software automatically generates a QR code, which can then be affixed to or near the machine. This means that anyone who needs to use the machine in the future can benefit from the practical knowledge of this expert, even long after they have left.

This Belgian technology is so simple and effective that it quickly won over large companies such as Microsoft, Nike, ArcelorMittal and Umicore. The US government, through its development cooperation agency USAID, has also just decided to implement the Manual.to platform to train thousands of Central American workers in the region's fast-growing textile sector.

This Belgian technological innovation could well win over the whole world!
