Belgian company chosen for high-profile restoration
Royal Manufacturers De Wit, a Belgian enterprise based in Mechelen, have been trusted with cleaning and restoring some highly valuable tapestry from a land far, far away.
The Royal Manufacturers De Wit have over 135 years of expertise under their belt. They have been trusted by the Louvre, the British National Trust, the Cathedral of Zaragoza, and now they have taken on the task of restoring the tapestry of Malta’s Grand Master’s Palace.
And a monumental task it is, as the whole process will take until March 2026 to complete, according to De Wit’s director, Pierre Maes. Steps include removing the old linings, in-depth cleaning including with the manufacturers’ patented aerosol technique, and reinforcing weakened parts of these works of art.
A fine display of trust in Belgian know-how, and proof that Royal Manufacturers De Wit’s excellent reputation extends far beyond the borders of our country. We can’t wait to see the result!
