Belgian shoe chain Torfs won the title of Best Employer in Europe for 2019.

This was the icing on the cake for this family-run business which was founded in 1948 and has more than 70 shoe shops in Flanders. In March 2019, Torfs won the award for Best Employer in Belgium for the sixth time in a row, in the "large business" category (more than 500 employees). It had languished in second place in the European awards for four years, but this year it rose to the top of the rankings.

On 5 June 2019 in Stockholm, the Great Place to Work Institute awarded it the title of Best Employer in Europe, among large businesses. The 17th Best Workplaces in Europe event had to decide between national winners from 19 European countries.

The Great Place to Work Institute awards businesses that promote a trust-based working environment and make its employers proud. The organization, whose official Belgian partner is the Vlerick Business School, also provides consultancy and promotes best practices.

The CEO of the chain, Wouter Torfs, was delighted to see this European award being presented to a family-run business. He believes that it is important to demonstrate humanity and authenticity during this age of digital revolution.
