Argenx, a Belgian biotechnology company has bought Forte Biosciences, a US company specialized in immune diseases.
The Ghent-based biotech giant and the Texan firm seem like a perfect match, as the Belgians aim to reach patients through “immunology innovation” and involve patients closely in their process of innovation.
Argenx has now invested two billion euros in the takeover of its American counterpart. The key to this whole acquisition lies in FB102, Forte’s antibody that targets specific pathways involved in autoimmune diseases and has shown promising results for countering vitiligo and celiac disease. According to Argenx’s CEO Karen Massey, the drug has broad potential across multiple diseases, making it a great addition to Vyvgart, their own wonder drug.
If FB102 turns out to be as promising as it seems to be in early trials, Argenx really has something great on their hands. Hopefully the shared expertise can push both companies to new heights and help improve the lives of patients with autoimmune diseases around the world.
