At the Diamond Theme Park Award ceremony, Pairi Daiza has been nominated as nicest zoo and most beautiful park in the Benelux.

Pairi Daiza, or the ‘Garden of Worlds’, is situated in the province of Hainaut, at the site of a former cistercian abbey with centuries-old trees and numerous historical buildings.  Each year, more than 1.5 million visitors enjoy the contact with the animals and the beauty of the authentic gardens. As a matter of fact, in Persian ‘Pairi daiza’ means ‘enclosed garden’ or ‘paradise’.

The 55 hectare estate is home to some five thousand animals among which white tigers,  panthers, giraffes, hippos, zebras, elephants, sea lions, penguins, prosimians, squirrel monkeys and multicoloured birds.

You can say hello to Hao Hao and Xing Hui, a couple of giant pandas loaned to the park since 2014 by the Chinese authorities.  Pairi Daiza is one of the 17 zoos in the world where these adorable animals can be admired.

In a few steps you can make the most fantastic journey across the continents. A splendid variety of landscapes, natural settings and cultural assets invite you to discover the animals in their original biotope.  You will find the giant pandas  in “Le Rêve de Han Wu Di”, the largest Chinese garden in Europe. Eight hectares of  savannah form the habitat of the “Big Five”, the five most symbolic animals of Africa: the lion, the elephant, the buffalo, the rhinoceros and the leopard. In the Indonesian garden of Ganesha, you can see the otters tumbling in the water.

Moreover, Pairi Daiza participates in some thirty scientific programmes for the conservation of endangered species. Consequently, numerous young animals of these species have been born in the park.
