A new look for the Antoine chip shop

21/04/2017

What's missing in Place Jourdan at the moment? The location's regulars would immediately answer, "the chip shack". Indeed, the legendary pavilion, which has taken centre stage on this square in Etterbeek for the last 33 years has been dismantled, but a brand-new building will replace it from September. While waiting, food-lovers can breathe a sigh of relief as chips, patties and hamburgers will temporarily be served from a truck!

Antoine is an institution in Brussels, where even Johnny Hallyday features among its customers and it comes highly recommended by the consumer magazine "Test Achat" which hailed it as the capital's best chip shop. In 2016, images of Maison Antoine went around the world when the German Chancellor Angela Merkel paid a visit to the shop.

Its new version is part of a bigger plan; in two years the Place Jourdan will look completely different as a semi-pedestrianised area at the centre of which cars will give way to terraces.

At the Etterbeek Mayor's office, we learn that "the modern architecture (of the new building) and its layout will help to improve customer service considerably. Customers will have an additional counter where they can place their order and will be able to shelter under an awning in bad weather. Behind the scenes, the building will house a kitchen with a cold room."
