Marino Vanhoenacker is the new Ironman world record holder for the full distance. Last week in the American city of Chattanooga, the Belgian triathlete swam, cycled and ran to the fifteenth Ironman victory in his rewarding career.

With his victory in Chattanooga, the Belgian triathlete Marino Vanhoenacker established a world record. The forty-year old West Fleming easily won his fifteenth full Ironman. In just over eight hours he swam 3.86 km, cycled 180.2 km and ran 42.195 km. Earlier in 2016 Vanhoenacker won the Ironman of Klagenfurt for the eighth time and the half Ironman in Zell am See.

During the past years, 'Bink', as he has been nicknamed, could also call himself the holder of the world record time of Ironman for a while. In 2011 he completed the full distance in Klagenfurt in 7:45.58. Despite his age, Vanhoenacker isn't thinking about quitting. On the contrary, the Ironman in New Zealand is his next challenge. "If I win there, I will have won an Ironman on every continent. No one has ever done that before."
