Belgium among the most innovative countries in the world

06/02/2017

In the '2017 Bloomberg Innovation Index', Belgium shines in 13th place on the list of the most innovative countries in the world.

As such, Belgium has moved up three places for the second time in a row. If the same leap can be achieved next year, a place in the Top 10 will even be feasible.

For the category 'Productivity', Belgium is now already in 9th place, whilst outstanding scores were also achieved in the areas of 'High-tech' and 'Research and Development'.

The ‘Bloomberg Innovation Index’ is an annual ranking which shows how innovative countries are. In addition to the categories 'Productivity', 'High-tech', and 'Research and Development', it is based on criteria such as the presence of research personnel and granted patents.

This year, the ranking was headed up by South Korea, followed by Sweden and Germany. The high ranking of other Scandinavian countries including Finland (5th place), Denmark (8th place) and Norway (14th place) is also worthy of note.
