Christophe Plantin engraved the first characters and built the first machine to print his “Biblia Poliglotta” or polyglot Bible in 1572 (printing began in 1568 and ended in 1572).

His publishing-printing business endured for three centuries. The Officina Plantiniana is considered the most important printing and publishing business which was ever established in Belgium and sold books throughout Europe.
