Visit the royal greenhouses
In 2017, the Laeken royal greenhouses will be open to the public from 14 April to 5 May. It is an excellent opportunity to discover one of the most outstanding monuments of Belgian heritage and to admire the collections of plants and exotic flowers, some of which were brought back from expeditions to the Congo for Leopold II. Evening visits are particularly recommended and ensure a complete change of scenery.
The greenhouses consist of metal and glass and are the work of the architect Alphonse Balat. They were created in the park next to Laeken royal castle (Brussels) on the initiative of Leopold II. The current collection of plants, planted at the time of King Leopold II, is exceptional and priceless because it contains many rare specimens.
