Knokke-Heist is honouring Magritte with a unique exhibition
Those keen on diving into the life and work of René Magritte, should certainly come to the Belgian coast this summer. The 'Magritte Experience' runs in Knokke-Heist until 3 September 2017. One of the highlights is a walk through Magritte's paintings in virtual reality. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Belgian surrealist artist's death.
The Magritte Experience has plenty to offer visitors of all ages. In the Magritte room in the casino, you can come and admire the monumental wall painting Domaine Enchanté - covering an incredible 300 square metres. There is also a trail featuring things to find along the way, which is suitable for the whole family. However, the top attraction must be the giant bowler hat on the beach. Pop on a set of VR glasses and take an unforgettable journey through the surreal world of René Magritte.
The Magritte Experience is not the only activity on offer this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the artist's death. In Brussels, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (KMSKB) are organising two exhibitions: Magritte and contemporary art and Magritte & Marcel Lecomte. In September the Atomium in Brussels will be running an interactive exhibition about the artist. Also in the autumn, Knokke-Heist is planning another exhibition, this time about the sea as a source of Magritte's inspiration.
