Gent Jazz Festival
Paolo Conte, Melanie De Biasio, Pharoah Sanders … these are just a few of the names to grace the line-up of this year's Gent Jazz Festival. The festival will be taking place at the Bijloke site in Ghent from 29 June to 8 July.
Classic jazz, avant-garde, fusion … in long-standing tradition, any jazz lover will be in their element in Ghent. As ever, this year's line-up includes a whole range of star-studded names. The 81-year-old Italian singer-songwriter Paolo Conte is well-known for his gravelly voice and his mix of styles. Melanie De Biasio, also known as Belgium's answer to Billie Holiday, is drawing worldwide admiration with her albums. Jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, who used to play with John Coltrane, is bringing Nicholas Payton along to Ghent as his guest. Another performance not to be missed, is that of the American trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, a rising star in the world of jazz.
The programme also includes concerts with Jef Neve, Vijay Iyer, Kandace Springs and many others.
