New Rhine Bridge from Strasbourg to Kehl made in Belgium

05/05/2017

The Belgian steel group Victor Buyck Steel Construction (VBSC) from Eeklo has built a new bridge over the Rhine, connecting Strasbourg in France with Kehl in Germany.

The prestigious and at the same time elegant artwork of 290 metres long and 16 metres wide was taken into operation on Friday 28 April 2017. The bridge can be used to cross the border by pedestrians, cyclists and trams alike. It was transported to Strasbourg by ship.

VBSC constructed the steel bridge deck, while consultancy firm Arcadis was in charge of the design and supervised the work. With a production capacity of about 45,000 tonnes, VBSC grew to become an international group with production units in Belgium and Malaysia and a sales office in the UK. The management takes pride in the Belgian anchorage, but also believes that Belgium’s strategic position at the heart of Europe offers the company an opportunity to grow into an international player in the steel construction industry.
