The Belgian company Agfa-Gevaert, based in Mortsel and active in the design and commercialisation of image-processing products, has won a contract with the American Ministry of Defence. It has been contracted to supply a system which will enable the digital archiving of medical images for the healthcare division of the Pentagon. The contract is worth $768 million (€688 million).

On Friday 12 August 2016, the Pentagon announced the terms of the DIN-PACS IV contract (Digital Imaging Network/Picture Archiving and Communication System) which was won by the "HealthCare" division of the company Agfa-Gevaert, based in Greendale in South Carolina. In total, 7 candidate companies were competing to win the contract. The contract itself will last 5 years, with the option to extend it by another 5 years. This will be the fourth agreement between the American government and Agfa HealthCare, which is the leader in the area of medical imaging and the IT healthcare industry. The contract will be worth $768 million over 10 years.

The new DIN-PACS IV contract will enable health professionals in the armed forces, the marine corps, as well as civilian employees of the Defence Department, to benefit from the services of the Belgian group. It will include departmental solutions, IT enterprise imaging solutions, integration services, and on-demand support programmes, all with additional flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, Agfa remains focused on the continuous improvement of the quality of its service. During the course of the 3 previous DIN-PACS contracts, Agfa HealthCare supplied more than $600 million worth of products and services.

Throughout its 18-year relationship, Agfa HealthCare has developed a strong presence in the DIN-PACS sector among numerous government agencies of the United States, which has allowed it to enhance the quality of healthcare services with solutions installed in more than 200 Defence departments, Treatment Centres for former soldiers, and more than 30 Naval ships.

Agfa has a long relationship with the United States federal government and is the only supplier to have continually served the government in this area since 1998.
